CAMELS is the confidential supervisory rating US regulators assign banks on capital, assets, management, earnings, liquidity and market sensitivity.

CAMELS is the confidential supervisory rating US regulators assign banks on Capital, Asset quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity and Sensitivity to market risk, scored 1 to 5. Banks are not permitted to disclose their rating, so it surfaces only through enforcement actions. Ratings of 4 or 5 place a bank on the problem list, a count that is published in aggregate and watched as a stress indicator.
