# Chief Financial Officer

*Careers & Credentials — Finicade finance glossary*

The CFO owns a company's financial function: reporting, controls, treasury, planning, capital structure and the investor relationship. The role has widened from stewardship to strategy, and the two backgrounds that dominate — accounting and investment banking — produce noticeably different CFOs, one stronger on control and one on capital markets.
