# Comprehensive vs Collision Coverage

*Insurance — Finicade finance glossary*

Collision covers damage from hitting something; comprehensive covers almost everything else — theft, hail, fire, a deer. Both pay only up to the car's actual cash value, which is why keeping them on a vehicle worth $2,000 with a $1,000 deductible is close to pointless. Dropping both once a car's value approaches a few multiples of the deductible is standard advice.
