# Crypto Winter

*Crypto & Digital Assets — Finicade finance glossary*

A crypto winter is a prolonged bear market where prices fall 70–90% from the peak and stay there for a year or more. There have been several, each following a mania and each preceded by confident claims that the cycle had been broken. Their pattern is consistent: leverage unwinds, weak projects fail, funding disappears, and the surviving builders ship in obscurity until the next cycle.
