# Family Office

*Careers & Credentials — Finicade finance glossary*

A family office manages the wealth of one family or a small group, handling investments, tax, estate planning, philanthropy and often household administration. Single-family offices typically make sense above a few hundred million in assets, given the cost of staffing one. They've become significant direct investors, competing with private equity for deals rather than only allocating to funds.
