The investment banking analyst is the entry-level role: building models, preparing pitch books and running diligence, traditionally over two to three years and famously long hours. It's a training programme as much as a job, and its main product for the analyst is optionality — private equity, hedge funds, corporate development and business school all recruit heavily from the cohort.
