# Market Manipulation

*Trading & Technical Analysis — Finicade finance glossary*

Market manipulation is trading designed to create a false impression of price or activity rather than to take a genuine position. It covers spoofing, wash trades, marking the close, cornering and coordinated pump schemes. Prosecution turns on intent, which is why manipulation cases lean heavily on chat logs and order-cancellation patterns rather than on the trades alone.
