# Market Order

*Trading & Technical Analysis — Finicade finance glossary*

A market order executes immediately at whatever price is available, guaranteeing a fill but not a price. In liquid names the difference is a cent; in thin ones it can be catastrophic, since the order walks the book until filled. The 2010 flash crash printed trades at a penny for exactly this reason, which is why limit orders are the safer default outside the deepest markets.
