A satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, one hundred-millionth of a coin, named after its pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto — whose identity remains unknown and whose estimated million untouched coins are watched permanently for any sign of movement. Denominating in sats is common as prices rise, since it avoids quoting everything in eight decimal places.
