# Series 7

*Careers & Credentials — Finicade finance glossary*

The Series 7 is the FINRA licence permitting the sale of most securities, and it's the entry requirement for a brokerage role. It must be sponsored by a firm, so it can't be taken speculatively before being hired. It tests product knowledge and rules rather than analysis, which is why it signals employment status more than skill.
