# SFDR

*ESG & Sustainable Finance — Finicade finance glossary*

SFDR requires EU fund managers to disclose how they handle sustainability, with funds classified as Article 6, 8 or 9. Article 9 funds must have sustainable investment as their objective. The classification was designed as disclosure and was immediately used as a marketing label, which led to mass downgrades from Article 9 to 8 as criteria were clarified.
