# Support and Resistance

*Trading & Technical Analysis — Finicade finance glossary*

Support is a price level where buying has repeatedly stopped a fall; resistance is where selling has stopped a rise. The mechanism is partly reflexive: enough participants watch the same levels that orders cluster there, making them self-reinforcing. Once broken, a resistance level is conventionally expected to act as support, which is the most-used idea in all of charting.
