# Technical Analysis

Technical analysis studies price and volume history to forecast future prices, on the premise that patterns of behaviour repeat. Weak-form market efficiency says it shouldn't work, and most tested indicators don't survive transaction costs. The parts with the best evidence behind them are momentum and trend persistence; the parts with the least are the named chart shapes people find most compelling.
