Post-Merger Integration

Also called: integration planning, day one readiness

Post-merger integration is the work of actually combining two organisations — systems, processes, cultures, people. It's where announced synergies are realised or lost, and it's chronically underfunded relative to the deal that created it. The consistent findings are that speed matters, that retention of key staff predicts success, and that cultural incompatibility is the most common cause of failure.
