Slippage
Also called: execution slippage, price slippage
Slippage is the difference between the price you expected and the price you got. It comes from the spread, from market impact when your order is large relative to available liquidity, and from delay. It's the cost that turns a profitable backtest into a losing strategy: a system trading frequently on small edges can be entirely consumed by slippage that the backtest assumed away.
