Whistleblower

Also called: whistleblowing, whistleblower protection

A whistleblower reports wrongdoing inside an organisation to regulators or the public. Modern regimes pay for it: the SEC awards 10–30% of sanctions above $1m, which has produced individual awards over $100m and a substantial share of enforcement leads. Retaliation is separately unlawful, and the strength of a firm's internal reporting channel is a standard supervisory question precisely because a healthy one keeps problems in-house.
