FIRST ROUND · 25 MINUTES

Trader / Market Maker

This is the round the firms below run before anyone opens your CV: arithmetic, probability and estimation at speed, then the trading ground itself — quoting a two-sided market, adverse selection, inventory, options intuition, and the auctions that behave like markets. Nothing here is deep. Everything here is fast. The clock is not a constraint on the test, it is the test, because a price you produce a minute late is a price nobody wanted.

Before you start

  • 30 questions in 25 minutes — about fifty seconds each, including the reading.
  • No calculator. Nothing here stops you reaching for one; the score is the only thing that suffers.
  • No hints, no worked examples, no indication of difficulty.
  • You are never told whether an answer was right — not after a question, not at the halfway mark.
  • A good answer sometimes draws a follow-up, exactly as it would in the room.
  • You may pass and move on. A pass scores the same as a wrong answer and costs far less time — on this round, taking that trade is often correct.
  • Everything — scores, mistakes, the correct answers, and what to drill — arrives in the debrief.

What it covers

30 questions drawn across 8 subjects. You are never told which subject a question belongs to, or how hard it is meant to be — the debrief scores each one separately.
