Candlestick Chart

Also called: candlesticks, japanese candlesticks, OHLC chart

A candlestick shows four prices for a period — open, high, low, close — as a body between open and close with wicks to the extremes. Developed by Japanese rice traders in the 18th century, it packs more information into the same space than a line chart. Individual candle patterns like the hammer or engulfing bar are widely taught and have weak standalone predictive evidence.
