Cashier's Check
Also called: bank draft, banker's draft, certified check
A cashier's check is drawn on the bank's own funds after it takes the money from your account, so it carries the bank's guarantee rather than yours. That's why property closings, car purchases and security deposits ask for one. It clears faster than a personal check but is not instant, and a common fraud is a fake cashier's check that provisionally credits your account, then reverses days later after you've wired the 'refund' — leaving you liable for the full amount.
