Prepaid Card
Also called: stored value card, gift card, reloadable card
A prepaid card is loaded with funds in advance and spends only what's on it, requiring no bank account or credit check. It's a core tool for the unbanked and for controlled spending. The fee structures are where the cost hides: activation, monthly maintenance, ATM withdrawal, balance inquiry and inactivity fees can consume a meaningful share of a small balance.
