Series A

Also called: series A round, series B, growth round

A Series A is the first large priced institutional round, funding a company that has found product-market fit to build a repeatable go-to-market engine. It's where formal governance arrives: a board seat, protective provisions, preferred stock with a liquidation preference. The gap between seed and Series A is the sector's most notorious failure point, and most seed-funded companies never cross it.
