Homeowners Insurance

Also called: home insurance, buildings and contents insurance, hazard insurance

Homeowners insurance covers the structure, your possessions, and your liability to others. Lenders require it, which is why it's rarely skipped and often unexamined. The two things worth checking annually are whether the dwelling coverage still matches the cost to rebuild — construction inflation has outpaced general inflation badly — and that flood and earthquake, excluded as standard, are handled separately if you need them.
