What the job actually is
A flight director owns the go/no-go calls of a mission in real time. Every one of them reduces to a calculation — a burn duration, a margin, a probability of failure across redundant systems — made against telemetry, under time pressure, with no option to submit a range and let somebody else decide.
It is included here because it is the purest version of something finance normally lets you avoid: there are no multiple-choice answers. You cannot hedge a trajectory by picking the middle option. You work the number, you state it, and physics grades it.
The underlying mathematics is the same machinery that prices risk anywhere else — exponentials and logarithms, expected values, compounding errors, the difference between an average outcome and a survivable one. The stakes simply remove the possibility of being vague.
